West Virginia University's Department of Psychology - a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2012 in Behavioral Neuroscience
West Virginia University's Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2012 in Behavioral Neuroscience. The position will require an active research program in the Neurobiology of Affective or Addictive Disorders (particular areas include, but are not limited to, mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders), a Ph.D. by the starting date, and evidence of strong potential in research and teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching (including student research supervision) and research. Obtaining significant external research support will be expected. Laboratory facilities will be assigned in our Life Sciences Building, which houses the Departments of Psychology and Biology. Additional facilities and collaboration opportunities are available through the University Health Sciences Center, Center for Excellence in Disabilities, Center for Advanced Imaging, and Center for Neuroscience. The Department of Psychology has 24 full-time faculty, 90 graduate students, and 800 undergraduate pre-majors and majors. This position is part of our continued development of our Behavioral Neuroscience program area. Psychology Ph.D. training also is currently offered in Behavior Analysis (ABA accredited), Clinical and Clinical Child Psychology (APA accredited), and Life-Span Developmental Psychology. 2 year postdoctoral fellowship in U of Haifa
Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship in the cognitive neuroscience of language and bilingualism, at the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for Learning Disabilities at the University of Haifa (more information at http://ejsafra.haifa.ac.il/). Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Psychology or Cognitive Science, with specific training in psycholinguistics and an interest in the domains of bilingualism, language learning, linguistic and cognitive processing. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and/or event-related potentials (ERPs), advanced technical skills (statistics, experiment design and programming with E-prime), proven scientific writing skills and the ability to work independently as well as lead a research project in collaboration with others. Knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew is an asset.
The successful candidate will join a research team lead by Prof. Asaid Khateb and Dr. Anat Prior focusing on 1) the behavioral manifestations and neural basis of diglossia (Spoken vs literacy Arabic) and bilingualism, and 2) the neural mechanisms of language selection and their overlap with cognitive control mechanisms. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The project will be carried out at the University of Haifa/Rambam medical center, which offers a vibrant intellectual community and a wonderful location on the top of Mount Carmel. Preferred start date is November, 2011.
